UPDATE 7TH DECEMBER 2006 The 2006 Election is over and a terrific result for all. The Upper House election result have not yet been posted as the Electoral Commission work through the preferences and we find out who got what. Congratulations to the REG team and their supporters for a terrific job in supporting the principals of public land access for everyone.
Special congratulations to Rita Bentley and Geoff Taylor for being independent candidates and all the people who volunteered to man polling booths on the day.
Also special comments made to the policy makers at the ALP for there efforts in the four wheel drive hunting and fishing policies. The Recreational Environment Group is an alliance of recreational users of public land in Victoria who are very concerned about the likelihood of politicians from the 'Greens' political party holding the balance of power in Victoria's Upper House following the state election on the 25th of November, 2006. To stop this happening, REG will be contesting one seat in the Victorian Upper House. (See Map of the Southern Metropolitan Region.) Let us explain why ... Environmental decision making in Victoria has been unduly influenced by the Greens and this is set to continue unless REG is successful. Two million hectares of Victoria's public land went up in smoke in 2003 and yet basic management principals haven't changed, our precious environment is still at risk from extreme Green influence. We want to ensure that the opportunity to participate in traditional outdoor activities is protected, as is the environment in which they are conducted. Recent years have seen a 'lock-up and lock-out' mentality in relation to Victoria's public land. 'Lock-up' areas in national parks, marine parks etc and 'lock-out' recreational activities. The
Green policies for the November election include establishing more national
parks, alongside giving free heroin to addicts. REG's focus is on
encouraging people to participate in healthy, outdoor activities - rather
than those at the end of a deadly needle. The best way to ensure
Victorians have an understanding of the natural environment is by getting
out there to spend time appreciating it - rather than relying on Green
rhetoric. REG does not have policies on Health Education and Welfare as it is not a political party. REG believes we should support those that make good government or support our ideals of putting the Greens last. 14th
